چکیده
A micromechanical model is developed to predict microstructure evolution and the resultant in-plane modulus increase in a thermal barrier coating (TBC) manufactured by air plasma spray (APS). The based on experimental observation that main sintering events include progressive healing of inter-splat cracks coarsening columnar grains within splats. During sintering, splats undergo Coble creep, which relaxes constraint crack therefore sintering. Given its structure, creep response taken be transversely isotropic. proposed implemented numerically using finite element (FE) meshes have been from cross-sectional micrographs an as-deposited coating. This allows microstructural features directly relevant performance TBCs modelled, overall elastic can also determined. curvy nature nearly horizontal intersecting vertical intra-splat explain low TBC their explains during results are validated comparison with experiments, terms patterns modulus. sensitivity major geometrical parameters explored summarised form map, identifies controlling processes as function kinetic properties. Finally, effect investigated.

Sintering of Fine Particles in Suspension Plasma Sprayed Coatings
Suspension plasma spraying is a process that enables the production of finely grained nanometric or submicrometric coatings. The suspensions are formulated with the use of fine powder particles in water or alcohol with some additives. Subsequently, the suspension is injected into plasma jet and the liquid additives evaporate. The remaining fine solids are molten and subsequently agglomerate or ...
متن کاملThermal Conductivity Analysis and Lifetime Testing of Suspension Plasma-Sprayed Thermal Barrier Coatings
Suspension plasma spraying (SPS) has become an interesting method for the production of thermal barrier coatings for gas turbine components. The development of the SPS process has led to structures with segmented vertical cracks or column-like structures that can imitate strain-tolerant air plasma spraying (APS) or electron beam physical vapor deposition (EB-PVD) coatings. Additionally, SPS coa...
متن کاملMonitoring Delamination of Plasma-Sprayed Thermal Barrier Coatings by Reflectance-Enhanced Luminescence
Highly scattering plasma-sprayed thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) present a challenge for optical diagnostic methods to monitor TBC delamination because scattering attenuates light transmitted through the TBC and usually degrades contrast between attached and delaminated regions of the TBC. This paper presents a new approach where reflectance-enhanced luminescence from a luminescent sublayer inc...

Suspension plasma spraying has become an emerging technology for the production of thermal barrier coatings for the gas turbine industry. Presently, though commercial systems for coating production are available, coatings remain in the development stage. Suitable suspension parameters for coating production remain an outstanding question and the influence of suspension properties on the final c...
